“Education is the pillar of success”, so, everyone wants to achieve a quality education. Therefore, many students go to abroad from Nepal to pursue their education and shape their career. However, in present context, there are universities in Nepal which provide foreign degree. For example, Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) provides degree of Bangkok. Likewise, Merryland College Biratnagar, Nepal Business College and Sikkim Manipal endow with degrees of UK, Malaysia and India respectively in Biratnagar. When we have foreign universities here in Nepal, then why go to abroad to study the same thing? People believe that foreign degrees are better than Nepalese degree and that’s true.
Nepalese degrees like TU, KU, PU, etc. are far more backward than these foreign degrees. The Nepalese degrees are fully theoretical and now-a-days students don’t like learning theory, instead they like practical education. These foreign degrees in Nepal are based on practical knowledge and make students job ready as soon as they graduate. Also, it makes them independent. These foreign degrees in Nepal bring their know-how and technology in our country which helps in development of our country but our Nepalese degree is still ancient with which the students do not remain updated with current technology. So, the foreign degrees also help to grab better job opportunities here in Nepal itself as it is advanced than our Nepali degree. It is not that students graduated from a Nepali degree will not get the job but the first priority is given to a student graduated with a foreign degree. Likewise, if we have foreign degrees in Nepal, our youths will retain here. Since our Nepalese brothers and sisters go to study abroad, most of them settle there and do not come back. We are losing our youths this way. Therefore, those who do not want to study Nepali degree and can’t afford going abroad can pursue foreign degree from here and develop themselves. I know Nepali degree is cheaper than foreign degree but then, people go abroad and spend a lot of money there, so instead students can study foreign degree in Nepal. Many students feel homesickness, for them also it is a benefit that they can stay with their families and obtain a foreign degree here over Nepal, isn’t it better than studying Nepali degree here or going abroad?
Comparing Nepali degree with a foreign one, Nepali degree is “spoon-fed”, students get the notes, get the books and the exam papers are leaked. Contrary to this, in foreign methodology, students study with the help of new technology like projectors; they need to do projects, presentations and research. This helps them to develop their skills and enhance their creativity. In Nepali degree, it is okay if you copy-paste from internet, but in foreign degrees, it is an offence called “plagiarism” and you may be expelled for it. So, it will increase the vocabulary and writing skills of students as they will have to write on their own. It is a benefit to Nepal that foreign degrees are here and will help students become self-dependent as it promotes self-study. Since our Nepali degree is not advanced to this stage till now, people go abroad but these foreign degrees are now here to shape career in a right track and encourage the sills to develop day-by-day. The condition of Nepali degree needs to be improved and advanced to develop our country. We have a few universities providing foreign degree here which will help our country to flourish.
To conclude, our Nepali degree lies far behind than the foreign degree. We have foreign degrees in Nepal which helps our youths to stay here and enhance their career. Our Nepali degree is outdated, so these foreign degrees in Nepal are helping students update their skills and knowledge according to the current technology. Lastly, everyone deserves a quality education, students can gain foreign degrees from here and explore themselves, develop our nation, instead of going abroad. In future, our Nepali degree may also develop into advanced one.
